Short films impress at competition
Nayland College media studies students were among the 23 young filmmakers who showed off their wares at the annual Briefs film competition on Thursday the 31st of October. Held at the Suter Theater, the competition saw a packed house enjoy student films from Nayland College, Nelson College for Girls and Nelson Boy’s College.
Sophie set to rep Nelson in China
Sophie Hampson, a Year 12 student at Nayland College, will be traveling to Nelson’s sister-city Yangjiang, China in April 2020 as part of an ongoing Arts and Cultural Youth Exchange Programme.
Nayland’s very own mad scientist
Despite only joining Nayland last term, new science teacher Sterling Cathman has proven to be very popular already. With his unconventional teaching methods, paying attention in class has never been so much fun!

Godwits get a tradition-focussed welcome back from Nayland
‘Ka ngau ki te turikakao te paringa o te tai, e tika te rere o te kuaka’ – The spinifex wanders along the beach like an incoming tide, the kuaka flies direct.
Tiaki takes to national Ngā Manu Kōrero stage
In May, year 10 Nayland student Tiaki Sharp won the junior English section of this regional speech competition for our rōhe (area).
