Covid-19 Update, 17 March 2020
As you are aware the Novel-Coronavirus (COVID-19) has now been declared an international pandemic. This communication is to give families an update on how Nayland College is following Ministry of Education and Health guidelines.
Records tumble at school athletic day
Nayland College Athletics Day was held on Tuesday 3 March at the Saxton Oval Athletics Track. There were over 350 competitors on the day, ranging from Year 9 to Year 13, all competing in their respective age groups.
Young triathletes excel at TSS champs
Last Tuesday was the annual Tasman Secondary Schools Triathlon Championships, which saw students from all over the region running, cycling and swimming their way around Rabbit Island.
Nine new medals for speed skater
Moving up to the Intermediate Ladies grade and facing tough competition wasn’t going to hold back Year 11 Nayland College student Holly Ward as she competed in three national events earlier this year.
Debaters succeed at regional tournament
It was a case of history repeating itself for the Nayland debating team as they took out the senior section of the Kahurangi Regional Student Debating competition for the second year in a row. The tournament, held at Nayland College, featured debaters from Nayland, Waimea, Garin, Nelson Girls, and Nelson Boys colleges.
Nayland students show their true colours at House Day 2020
Two weeks ago, Nayland experienced yet another successful house day, with students coming together under the banners of either Draco, Aquila, Pheonix or Pegasus House to celebrate a day of whanaungatanga – the chance to feel a connection to their school and have a whole lot of fun in the process.
Face coverings information
Under Level 2 face coverings are required on public transport (buses, trains and commuter ferries). However, school busses are exempt. Face coverings will be required for the NBus.
Students enter a world of challenge
Over the summer holidays, 5 students from Nayland College embarked on a trip of a lifetime when they travelled to Laos and Vietnam as part of the World Challenge program.
USA jaunt rewarding for young thespian
Year 11 student Matthew Edgar had an exciting summer, representing New Zealand at the 15th annual Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, Georgia.

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement tonight that there are cases of community transmission in Auckland, Nayland College would like to assure our community that school will be open as per usual tomorrow.
