Proposed enrolment scheme – community consultation

Nayland College has been formally notified by the Ministry of Education that there is likely to be overcrowding at the school unless an enrolment scheme is adopted. Under Section 11H(1) of the Education Act 1989, the Nayland College Board must now begin developing a scheme and this process must include a period of community consultation.

Nominations open now for two school trustee positions

Nominations are invited for the election of two parent representatives to the Board of Trustees. A nomination form is included in this article and hard copies may be collected from reception. Nominations close noon on Friday 30 October.

Nayland’s diverse dancing talent gets to put on a show

Last Monday was the Nayland’s Dance Showcase. Although scaled back in terms of audience, it was big on talent and variety. There were 40 students that took part in the showcase, across 12 different acts. There were a range of dance genres, including Bollywood, jive, contemporary, gumboot, musical theatre and kapa haka.

Face coverings update from the Ministry of Education

Face coverings will therefore be required on public transport (buses, trains and commuter ferries) from 11.59pm on Sunday 30 August. However, school busses are exempt. Face coverings will be required for the NBus.

School guidance counsellor position available

Manaaki Café is open for business

This term has seen the welcome return of the Manaaki café. Run by Hospitality and Catering students, the café sees a classroom being turned into a fully operational café for two lunchtimes a week. Customers can make bookings at the school Business Centre.

Poorman Valley Stream not so poor anymore

Due to the work of our diligent NEST group, (Nayland Environment and Sustainability Team,) the school has received a $1100 grant to aid in preserving Poorman Valley Stream.The grant, which has been supplied by Enviroschools and the Nelson City Council, will be used by the NEST group to continue testing the water in the stream […]

NZ Moves Back to Level 2

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement tonight that there are cases of community transmission in Auckland, Nayland College would like to assure our community that school will be open as per usual tomorrow.

Nayland opens its doors to prospective students

Tuesday night was Nayland College’s open night, with over 900 visitors coming in two shifts to sample what student life at Nayland College is like.

House Cook Off competition comes to a tasty finish

Teachers and staff were the big winners Thursday lunch time, when they got to judge the delicious results of the inaugural Nayland College House Cook Off.

Year 10 Social Studies students find their passion

Year 10 Social Studies teachers, Amanda Walker and Nathan Gargiulo, are helping their students find their passion through the ‘Genius Hour’ approach. Every week, students are given one period to devote to something they feel passionate about and are supported by their teachers to investigate and create something in relation to their chosen topic.

Outdoor Ed’ers make up for lost time

After some enforced time indoors during lockdown, our Outdoor Education department have been keen to get back amongst it. Enjoy the stunning scenery captured in their photos and read on to find out what our intrepid students have been up to.
