On Wednesday we had the privilege of taking some of our rangatahi Māori out for a haerenga on waka ama.
The purpose of the trip was to provide an opportunity for some of our Māori akonga to grow and develop their leadership skills in and through a kaupapa Māori context.
We loaded two waka and paddle to Te Taeroa o Kereopa rāua ko Pāni (Boulder Bank), Manuka Island (Haulashore), and Tāhunanui.
Rangatahi shared some history of these places and also created and lead team building games. The aim is to use these to support the Year 9 Marae Visits taking place at Whakatū marae next week.
A huge mihi to Mrs de Jong and Matua Matt for their support, as well as Te Tai O Aorere Waka Ama Club for the use of their gear.
