From 5th – 7th June, both International Outdoor Education classes went up for a three-day tramp in Kahurangi National Park.
Tramping with three days of gear and food is exciting and challenging, and for the majority of the group, the first time they had done this. The weather conditions were great and one of the groups went up to Mt Arthur on the first day. It was a big climb up to the top, in which a few students learned about perseverance and that they can achieve way more than they sometimes think they can.
On the second day, both groups met up at Gordon’s Pyramid and spirits were lifted. We had a great night cooking around Salisbury Hut and listening to some pūrākau (Māori stories) around the campfire.
On the last day, a small group were keen to make the most of the tramp and woke up at 5am to walk up Lodestone on the way out. Amazing views and a challenging terrain completed the three day tramp; the stories shared with the other group on the way home were great to listen to. Not long after that, there was a lot of snoring as most students were pretty tired! Well done to all of the International Students on this trip and thanks for sharing your enthusiasm with your teachers and instructors!
