The Top of the South Schools Team Sailing Regatta

Two Nayland College Sailing teams competed at The Top of the South Schools Team Sailing Regatta on March 14-16. They competed against many schools from all over the South Island and represented the school really well! Congratulations to whole team who won an award for the most tactical race.  

Nayland students included: (The Nayland College team) Shay Smith, Morgan Barak, Micah Dunn, Aldo Horring, Logan Hanlon, Maxwell Acland, (Nayland/Garin Combined team) Gabriel Wilde, Daisy Stossel, Evelyn Johnston.

National Volleyball Champs in Palmerston North

The New Zealand Secondary School Volleyball Championships were held in Palmerston North last week and Nayland College sent three teams to battle it out  (Girls A – 1st division, Girls B – 3rd Division, Boys B – 3rd Division). Over the week each team played valiantly with wins and losses across the board. There were 198 teams competing in the competition and our final placings were…

South Island School MTB Championships 

The South Island Secondary School Mountain Bike Championships were held at Coronet Peak in Queenstown over the weekend. Our students had a great weekend and a special shout out to Erica Batchelor who placed 1st in the U20 downhill.

Mammoth Enduro 

In other mountain bike news, the Mammoth Enduro took place over the weekend and of course our MTB stars were there! The two day event saw competitors race as fast as they could through Nelsons superb trail network. Congratulations to Xanthe Robb (placing 3rd in the female pro-elite) and Nico Schroder (placing 5th in the male pro-elite).

TSS Triathlon Championships

Keshia Linyard won the Senior girls and Nia Linyard the Junior girls at the Tasman Secondary Schools Triathlon on Sunday 17 March. It was held over a 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run.

TSS Stand Up Paddle Board Championships 

The Nayland girls had an awesome morning at the South Island Secondary School Paddle Board Champs yesterday. Congratulations to Kaitlyn Robinson who came away with the senior girls title. Today the Juniors take to the water with 33 Nayland students competing at Tāhunanui Beach.

SISS Touch Championships

Ivy Toa and Ania Morgan competed at the SISS Touch championships over the weekend of March 16 -17 in Christchurch. They were in a combined team and joined the Motueka High School girls team and did really well – placing 5th.

Club Athletic Nationals 

Congratulations to Micayla Whiti who competed at the Jennian Homes NZ Track and Field Championships. She earned herself a bronze medal in the Under 20 Girls 200m race.  

Inter-Waka Ki O Rahi 

Waka points have been up for grabs at the annual Inter-Waka Ki o Rahi Competition on the bottom field this week. Our students have been running, ducking and diving on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes to earn points for their waka. Today’s final saw a very close match between Ngā Whatu and Manukau, with Ngā Whatu winning the tournament. Congratulations Ngā Whatu! We’re looking forward to hosting the TSS Ki-O-Rahi tournament in the last week of term.
