Nayland College, in conjunction with Broadgreen Intermediate, is delighted to announce the appointment of Scott Baker as our Basketball Development Manager.

Scott is a qualified Basketball Coach who recently moved to Nelson to take up the role of Development Officer for Nelson Basketball, which he will continue in conjunction with this position. Scott first started coaching basketball in his last years of high school and has recently coached at St Andrew’s College, for grade-level regional teams in Canterbury and has worked as an assistant coach with a New Zealand Youth Development team.

Scott’s role at Nayland College involves development of a basketball programme across all year levels in both boys’ and girls’ codes. Alongside coaching the Senior A Boys team, Scott will also work as assistant coach across a range of other boys and girls teams. Scott is keen to develop players from year 7 onwards and therefore will also have a close association with development teams and will look to provide as many opportunities for students to progress in the sport as possible. Principal Daniel Wilson believes that Scott will bring new skills to the basketball programme that will be of huge benefit to the students involved.  “Scott is incredibly passionate about basketball and will bring a new diversity of talents into our basketball programme,” said Wilson.

Athlete well-being, holistic development and working with passion are at the centre of how Scott coaches and challenges his athletes and is he is very excited to bring some new energy and guidance to the Nayland College Basketball Programme. Scott holds a Bachelor of Sports Coaching, majoring in leadership, from the University of Canterbury.
