25 Mar Y13 Dance students explore Toi Whakaari and Te Papa

Last Friday Y13 Dance traveled to Wellington to explore some exciting dance opportunities. The morning was spent at? Toi Whakaari, where the group? participated in Koiwi (whole Uni activity) and met with staff and students. The afternoon was spent at Te Papa for the New Zealand Dance Company performance of ‘Rotunda‘. The group were able to watch the Company warm up, talk to the choreographer, and participate in a question and answer session with the dancers at the end of the performance.

The students benefited from discussing the dance work with dancers and the choreographer, enabling them to fully appreciate the preparation going into creating a dance work: not just performing on the day, but years of research beforehand.

At the end of the year, the students will complete their external exam on the piece ‘Rotunda’ with a unique insight into the performance and preparation of the work.
