01 Sep Quilts bring colour to kids

Cushla Laufkotter’s Year 10 Textiles Technology class created these quilts in groups for their first project. The patterns used are based on the Legend “Kupe and the Boulder Bank”.  According to student Jordan Smithers, creating the quilts was both challenging and fun.

The students are pictured here with Nelson Hospital paediatric nurses Margaret Doorman and Rachael Drummond.  The nurses popped into school to be presented with the quilts as a donation to the children’s ward.  Items such as these make a big difference to those who use the ward.  “If you’re sick in hospital, it can get quite boring so they do enjoy looking at colourful things,” Rachael Drummond said.
