20 Oct Nayland Outside the Classroom: Automotive Trades students put their grass-karts to the test
The grass-kart races is the crowning event in the NMIT Trades Academy (Automotive) calendar, where teams of students who have spent the year designing and building their own karts test them out. A number of Nayland College students formed teams for this challenge, jumping at the chance to take their learning to the track.
Although the results were mixed, feedback on the event was overwhelmingly positive. Nayland College student Sealand Tang encouraged others interested in mechanics to consider the NMIT Trades Academy programme. “Even if you don’t continue to an apprenticeship, you’ve still got heaps of technical skills out of it.”
Classmate Daniel Batchelor agreed, explaining that the Academy programme was a significant step toward a future career for him. “I’ll be going on to the pre-trades course [full-time] in 2016. The Trades Academy course has given me heaps of steps in the right direction.”
Students interested in NMIT Trades Academy courses should see the Careers Department at Nayland College for information.
