20 Mar Nayland College students step forward to Shave for a Cure

Nayland College senior students Dustin Blazek and Taylah Acero are participating in the 2015 Shave for a Cure campaign to raise awareness about leukaemia and blood cancers. The students will shave their heads to raise funds for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.

Dustin explains that his decision to participate was prompted by a TV ad. “I’m pretty lucky that I don’t have blood cancer, but there are a lot of people out there who do,” says Dustin. He also challenges other people to get involved in the campaign. “You don’t have to shave your head, just show some type of support.”? You can support Dustin’s fundraising campaign by donating to Shave for a Cure.

Taylah decided to put herself forward because she wants people to recognise leukaemia and blood cancers as significant and serious illnesses. Her personal experience of losing? family members to leukemia? drives her to make a difference. “People, especially people our age, often forget the importance of supporting others when they’re unwell. My hair will grow back, but for some it may never.”

Taylah will do her shave at lunchtime on Tues 31st March in the Nayland College quad.? You can show your support by donating to her Shave for a Cure campaign.
