PAINTING

At junior level we teach students that the medium of paint is just another way to record information and like any other skill needs to be practiced.

Simple and easily learned techniques are taught that help all students improve. Students will learn modelling and rendering skills following a variety of exciting styles and methods including stencil work, pointillism and blending.

At senior level the course is primarily student directed with guidance from the teacher. They may work in a variety of styles from highly photo-realistic, pop and street art or expressionist to the more abstract styles of gesture and mark making. Ideas from personal interest areas are explored showing understanding of historical and contemporary art practices.

In their final year painting provides students with the opportunity to explore a self-directed proposal. The final works that students produce are an extraordinary demonstration of the learning journey that they have made over the course of five years.
