22 Oct James joins the top brass in national secondary schools band
Nayland College’s James MacKay has recently been selected as a member of the 2015 National Secondary Schools Brass Band. This tenor horn player is a committed member of many music groups at Nayland College, and his selection for the national band is recognition of his talent and passion for music.
As part of his band duties the Year 13 student attended a recent NSSBB camp at Kokako Lodge in Auckland, taking part in an intensive course of rehearsals, workshops and public performances. “The course was exhausting, but it was all worth it for the very last concert,” James said.
Although the dedication required to play music at a top level can put some people off, James gives some good advice to other students considering auditioning for the NSSBB: “just do it.”
