Homestay Families

Nayland College is lucky to be supported by so many excellent homestay families who treat International students as one of their family.

Upon application you are required to fill out a Homestay Application form which is your chance to tell us about your likes and dislikes and expectations of your homestay family.

We will then endeavour to find you a compatible Homestay Family to live with while studying at Nayland College.

Things we will want to know about you include:

  • If you have been in a homestay situation before?
  • Do you prefer a family with other children if so younger or older?
  • Do you like animals?
  • What foods do you like?
  • What foods don’t you like?
  • Do you have religious affiliations?
  • What are your hobbies and Interests?
  • Which sports do you play or want to play?

When your host family has been finalised we will send you a profile of the family selected and you may begin correspondence with them before your arrival in Nelson.

Homestay Co-ordinator

Our Homestay Co-ordinator, Sophia Morris, endeavours to find you a compatible homestay family to live with while studying at Nayland College.

Nayland College hosts international students from Asia, Europe, the Americas and the Pacific Islands. We have regular student exchanges with our sister schools in Japan, and our students have both organised tours and individual international exchanges. Some social events are held in conjunction with other Nelson schools.

The college arranges Homestay accommodation with local host families providing students with the advantage of a friendly, supportive family environment. Our Homestay Co-ordinator and International Student Director maintain an ongoing liaison with parents and ensures the well-being of our international students. Nayland is very proud of its student support network.

All students will be well supported by Nayland College and both Sophia and Gavin are available to help you with adjusting to living in a New Zealand home.
