14 Feb Champion swimmers impress

Over the weekend of the 3-4th February a number of Nayland College students represented their clubs by competing at the Swimming Nelson Marlborough Long Course Championships held at Nayland Pool.

Skye Humphries (Year 9) won the regional trophy for best overall 12 year old female, with 6 golds and 3 silvers. Skye swims for the Nelson South Swim Club. This has always been a great meet for Skye because in a few days she will turn 13 and moves up an age group. The 13 year old female age group is very tough, not just in our region, but right across the country actually! However, Skye swam well and it was a great result for her. Skye will now start a hard phase of training to prepare her for the national Division 11 Championships in March.

Jaxon Marshall (Year 10, Tasman Swim Club). Jaxon was 2nd overall in the 14 year old male age group with 4 golds and 4 silvers. Jaxon was involved in some exciting battles in the pool with many of his races coming down to the touch at the end for 1st or 2nd. Jaxon will now be preparing for the National Age Group Championships (NAGs) in April.

Ilaria Old (Year 10, Nelson South Swim Club) placed 5th overall in the 14 year old female age group (which is a very tough age group). She won 2 golds, 2 silvers and 5 top ten finishes. Ilaria dominates in backstroke with her gold medals coming in the 50m and 100m backstroke events. Ilaria is also a NAGs swimmer and will be training hard for this pinnacle national event.

Zoey Murray (Year 10, who swims with Motueka Swim Club) was also in the 14 year old female age group and had 5 top 10 finishes.
